Dog-Friendly Parks in Bordeaux

The largest park in Bordeaux and the best for dogs with serious exercise needs. Covering over 28 hectares in the western Caudéran district, the Parc Bordelais has dedicated off-leash zones clearly signposted at the park entrances. The terrain mixes open meadows, wooded paths, and a small lake. On weekend mornings, it is one of the most social dog-walking spots in the city, with an informal but reliable community of regular walkers. The park is large enough that you can walk for an hour without retracing your steps.

One of Bordeaux's most beautiful formal gardens, laid out in the English landscape style in the 18th century and home to the city's Natural History Museum. Dogs are permitted throughout on a leash and the broad tree-lined avenues make for a serene, unhurried walk. The park is central to the Chartrons district, which means you can combine it easily with a post-walk wine bar stop on the way back. The botanical garden section is worth exploring. Leash rules are enforced, particularly near the children's play areas.

Strictly speaking Darwin is not a park — it is a converted military complex — but it functions as Bordeaux's most dog-permissive open space. The vast courtyard, rooftop terrace garden, and riverside access combine to create a sprawling urban environment where dogs move freely. The skate park, organic market, and street art add an energy that formal parks lack. On a weekend afternoon, Darwin is where Bordeaux's young, dog-owning population converges. No fenced dog run, but the whole space functions as one in practice.

A long, linear park stretching along the right bank of the Garonne, the Parc aux Angéliques was completed in 2014 and has quickly become one of the most popular riverside walking destinations in the city. Its design is deliberately naturalistic: wild-planted meadows, willow trees, and a promenade following the curve of the river. Dogs are welcome on leash and the open sightlines and broad paths make it an easy, enjoyable walk at any time of day. The views across to the Bordeaux UNESCO World Heritage waterfront are excellent.
