Dog-Friendly Attractions in Bordeaux

The largest reflecting pool in the world, the Miroir d'Eau sits facing the magnificent Place de la Bourse on the left bank of the Garonne. It alternates between a glass-smooth water phase and a theatrical mist phase every 23 minutes. Dogs are permitted in the outdoor area and regularly wade through the water phase when the shallow layer refreshes. The contrast between the ancient stone façade of the Bourse and the modern reflecting pool makes for extraordinary photography. Early morning visits with your dog before the crowds arrive are particularly special.

Bordeaux's oldest bridge, completed in 1822 under Napoleon's instruction with 17 arches representing the letters of 'Napoléon Bonaparte', the Pont de Pierre connects the left bank historic centre with the Bastide district on the right bank. Dogs on a leash are welcome to walk the full crossing. The views upstream toward the Cité du Vin and downstream toward the Quais and Miroir d'Eau are outstanding in both directions. The bridge connects naturally with the Darwin Ecosystème walk on the right bank and the Quais promenade on the left.

The Cité du Vin is one of the most architecturally striking buildings in France, its swirling metallic exterior inspired by the swirl of wine in a glass. Dogs are not permitted inside the museum, but the outdoor grounds, esplanade, and surrounding quayside are fully accessible with a dog on a leash. The building is surrounded by a new urban district with cafés and wine shops where dogs are generally welcome on terraces. Combine a visit to the exterior with a glass on the nearby quayside wine bar — the view of the building from across the water is outstanding.
