Dog-Friendly Riverside & Swimming Spots near Bonn

A quiet Rhine bay south of Bad Godesberg, popular with local dog owners for a paddle on calm summer afternoons. The riverbank is gravelly with grass meadow behind, and the bay is partially sheltered from the main current. Dogs must stay on lead on the connecting promenade; the bay itself is unofficially used for dog swims.

The east-bank counterpart of the central Rheinaue: a long strip of riverside meadow north of the Kennedybrücke, with sandy patches and gentle gravel shores. Less busy than the city-centre promenade, particularly in the morning. The Bonn off-leash regulation does not extend here, so leash law applies on the path, but dogs are often seen swimming in the small bays — at owners' discretion and risk.

A 1.5 km recreational lake in the western green belt of Cologne, easily reached from Bonn on Stadtbahn line 16. A dedicated dog beach (Hundestrand) at the southern end allows off-leash swimming, with a sloping grass entry and shallow water — better suited to dogs that need a gentle introduction. The lake circuit is 3.5 km and entirely dog-friendly on lead outside the marked off-leash zone.
