Dog-Friendly Things to Do in Bonn

Bonn's 900-year-old Romanesque basilica with its powerful 92 m spire and 12th-century cloister. The interior is closed to dogs (with the exception of registered assistance dogs), but the square outside is one of the most photogenic places in the city. The cloister can sometimes be viewed from the side gate during opening hours without entering the church.

A former bastion of the city wall converted into a leafy viewpoint above the Rhine, with views to the Siebengebirge across the water. Dogs are welcome on the lawn and the connecting riverside paths. Bring a coffee from the Altstadt and let your dog watch the barges go by — one of the most pleasant slow stops in central Bonn.

The most famous peak of the Siebengebirge, with a ruined hilltop castle, panoramic views back over Bonn and the Rhine, and Schloss Drachenburg on its slope. The walk up from Königswinter takes about 1 hour at a steady pace; the Drachenfelsbahn rack railway runs a parallel route and accepts leashed dogs on board. Drachenfels is a forest, so the NRW leash rule applies 1 March–15 July.
