Castell de Begur & hilltop trail
Hilltop, above the casc antic · Pujada al Castell, 17255 Begur
The 11th-century castle ruins crowning the 200 m hill above the Begur casc antic, an open-air heritage site rebuilt and dismantled several times between the 11th and 17th centuries (last destruction by French troops in 1810). Panoramic 360-degree view over the six Begur calas, the Cap de Begur lighthouse, the Medes islands off L`Estartit, and the Empordà plain to the Pyrenees on clear days. Free open-air access, leashed dogs welcome up to the summit.
💡 Climb at sunset for the warm light on the cala portfolio below; the path is steep stone steps (15-20 min from the Plaça de l`Església), carry water in summer and watch the polished worn stone with a young or senior dog
