Getting around Asheville with a dog

Asheville is a car town. There is no metro or light rail, and the ART city buses only take pets in a carrier held on your lap, so the practical reality for most visitors with a dog is to drive. A car is what unlocks the things people come here for anyway: the Biltmore, the Blue Ridge Parkway, the Arboretum and the national-forest waterfalls all need wheels. Within the compact downtown, though, you and your dog can get almost everywhere on foot.
