Dog-friendly attractions in Asheville

America's largest privately owned house sits in 8,000 acres of Olmsted-designed gardens and woodland trails. The grounds are the reason to come with a dog: miles of leashed walking past formal gardens, the lagoon and the river.

The scenic parkway runs right past the city with overlooks, picnic areas and trailheads minutes from downtown. It is the easiest way to get a dog into big mountain scenery.

A 434-acre public garden and forest with ten miles of hiking and biking trails open to leashed dogs, a lovely half-day of easy-to-moderate walking.

A compact Art Deco downtown built for walking a dog: Pack Square, the free 1.7-mile self-guided Urban Trail past thirty history stations, and dog-welcoming shops and patios throughout.

A riverfront district of working studios, galleries and breweries linked by the Wilma Dykeman Greenway. Leashed dogs are welcome on the greenway and in many galleries, though the area is still recovering from 2024 flooding.
