There is no ocean in the Blue Ridge, so the mountain equivalent of a dog beach is a river access point or a forest swimming hole. The French Broad River gives the easiest close-to-town paddles, while the national forests to the south hold famous waterfall trails where the rule is to keep dogs out of the water near the falls. A word of caution runs through all of it: mountain water is cold and currents strengthen fast after rain, so pick calm spots and check the flow.
