Salcombe

A sheltered sandy cove on the estuary, backed by the dog-friendly Winking Prawn cafe, and the one Salcombe beach open to dogs all year with no seasonal ban.

A pretty south-facing beach below the South Sands Hotel, linked to town by ferry and sea tractor. Dogs banned completely 1 May to 30 September; open to dogs October to April.

Sheltered sandy coves on the East Portlemouth side, reached by the short dog-friendly ferry from Salcombe, with National Trust woodland behind. Dog-friendly all year on a lead.

Small passenger ferries crossing the estuary to East Portlemouth and South Sands. Well-behaved dogs travel on a lead, and they unlock the eastern beaches and coast paths.

A National Trust subtropical garden perched on the Sharpitor cliff, with glorious estuary views. Dogs welcome on a short lead, away from the Banana Garden and grassed areas.

National Trust coast paths above the estuary: Snapes Point for gentle harbour views, Bolt Head for dramatic cliffs. Keep dogs on a lead near livestock and cliff edges.
