Ischia

Ischia's iconic fortified islet, crowned by a medieval castle and joined to Ischia Ponte by a stone causeway. The site is largely open-air, and leashed dogs are generally welcome on the outdoor paths, worth confirming at the ticket office.

A completely car-free former fishing village on the southern coast, with pastel houses tumbling to a tiny harbour. Being pedestrian, it is one of the most relaxing places on the island to wander with a leashed dog, and the gateway to the Maronti.

The island's longest beach, on the southern coast from Sant'Angelo, warmed by hot springs. Its free sections are the most realistic beach option with a dog, within the reduced hours set by the ordinance; avoid the hot fumarole sand.

The island's highest point at 789 m, reached by marked trails from Fontana, with a 360-degree view over the Bay of Naples. Leashed dogs are welcome on the mountain trails, cooler than the coast; the final stretch is steep and rocky.

A shaded public pine grove along the seafront between Ischia Porto and Ischia Ponte, flat and cool, one of the easiest dog walks on the island. Leashed dogs are welcome under the umbrella pines, with sea views and plenty of benches.

The island's largest thermal park, above Citara beach in Forio, and Ischia's headline wellness attraction. Dogs are not allowed inside the park or on its beach, as at the Negombo thermal park; plan a dog sitter for the spa day.
