The Jadrolinija fast catamaran (line 9604) runs Split-Hvar Town in about 1 h, the quickest way onto the island for foot passengers - it does not carry cars. Several daily departures year-round, expanded summer schedule. Pets travel on deck on a short lead with a muzzle for €5-10 depending on size, paid at the Hvar Town or Split ticket booth. Krilo Shipping runs a parallel summer fast service to the same Hvar Town pier.

The Jadrolinija car ferry (line 631) and the seasonal Krilo car ferry run Split to the Stari Grad ferry port in 1 h 45 min, carrying cars, motorhomes, foot passengers and pets. The Stari Grad port sits 4 km east of Stari Grad town and is linked to Hvar Town by a 20 km cross-island road and the SDA bus. Pets on deck or in the cabin (driver discretion) for €5-15 surcharge. Booking ahead online is essential for cars from July to August.

SDA Hvar runs the island bus network from the Hvar Town Riva station to Stari Grad (30 min), Jelsa (50 min), Vrboska, Sveta Nedjelja and Sućuraj (2 h east end), with timetables built around the car-ferry arrivals at Stari Grad port. Water taxis from the Hvar Town quay reach the Pakleni Islands (Palmižana, Mlini, Jerolim) in 15-25 min year-round on demand. Small dogs in a carrier ride free on the bus; larger dogs are admitted muzzled and leashed at the driver`s discretion, water taxis welcome dogs on deck.
