Hvar Pet Travel Overview
Island-wide · Hvar, Dalmatia, Croatia
The Hvar Tourist Board signposts the island as pet-tolerant: leashed dogs are welcome on Saint Stephen`s Square, the Fortica Španjola path, the Pjaca harbour, the Stari Grad UNESCO plain and on most café terraces in Hvar Town, Stari Grad, Jelsa and Vrboska. Key gotchas: water-taxi skippers occasionally refuse dogs on the busiest summer crossings to Palmižana (confirm with the skipper on the quay), and Croatian summer beach law (15 May-15 Sep) restricts dogs to signposted dog coves like Pokonji Dol east end, Mekićevica off-season and the rocky flank of Dubovica.
💡 Carry waste bags and an EU pet passport at all times - Croatian municipal fines for not picking up are around €100, and beach inspectors check the passport in case of an incident on a designated dog cove.
