Opatija

Opatija's iconic 12 km seaside promenade linking Volosko through the town centre to Lovran, right at the water's edge. Leashed dogs are welcome all year and it is the best way to explore the Riviera on foot.

The historic park at the heart of Opatija, laid out in the 1880s around the Villa Angiolina, with camellias, magnolias and exotic trees. The shaded gravel paths make a cool morning walk and leashed dogs are welcome throughout.

The Maiden with the Seagull statue, the symbol of Opatija, set on a rock above the sea at the start of the Lungomare. Fully outdoors, it is a classic sunset photo stop and completely fine for leashed dogs.

The old fishing village at the northern end of the Lungomare, with steep stone lanes tumbling to a still-working harbour and the best konoba taverns on the Riviera. A picturesque setting for an evening wander with a leashed dog.

The nature park of the Ucka massif rising above Opatija, laced with marked trails through beech and chestnut woods up to the Vojak summit (1,401 m). Cooler and shaded than the coast, dogs are welcome on the trails on a leash.

Opatija's central beaches, such as Slatina, are busy concrete bathing platforms where dogs are not allowed under Croatian rules. Use the designated dog beaches at Punta Kolova or Gornja Ika for swimming instead.
