Falmouth

Falmouth's main beach, a wide crescent of golden sand on the seafront below the town. Dogs banned 15 May to 30 September, 10am to 6pm; before 10am and after 6pm they are welcome.

A small, sheltered sand-and-shingle cove on the coast path between Swanpool and Maenporth. The one local beach open to dogs 24 hours all year; reached on foot.

Henry VIII's Tudor coastal fortress on the headland above the harbour. Unusually, dogs on leads are welcome throughout, including inside the buildings and grounds.

One of the world's deepest natural harbours, lined with dog-friendly pubs and cafes. Open-air and dog-friendly year-round, it is the lively heart of the town.

A passenger ferry from the Prince of Wales Pier to the pretty village of St Mawes on the Roseland. Dogs are welcome and travel free, on a lead on deck.

A small, free exotic garden packed with subtropical plants, open all year, between the town and the seafront. Dogs on a lead are welcome on the winding paths.
