Whitby is a small town wrapped in big countryside, so most dog walks here lead quickly out onto cliff tops, woodland or old railway paths rather than manicured parks. In the town itself Pannett Park gives you a gentle, landscaped stroll, while just outside, the Cinder Track and Mulgrave Woods offer longer, greener adventures. Dogs must be kept on a lead in Pannett Park and near livestock, and on cliff paths a lead is strongly advised for safety. The three green spaces below cover everything from a quick town wander to a proper half-day walk.
Whitby's main town park, a beautifully landscaped Victorian-era green space in the heart of town with winding paths, a lily pool, a rock garden and lawns, all a short walk from the station. It is a calm, pretty spot for a gentle leg-stretch with a dog between rain showers or after a busy day on the beach.

A traffic-free walking and cycling path along the old Whitby to Scarborough railway line, running south from Whitby through open countryside towards Robin Hood's Bay and beyond. It is a superb, safe dog walk with big sea views and no cars, ideal when the beaches are under summer restrictions. You can do as much or as little of it as you like and turn back at any point.

A beautiful stretch of estate woodland near Sandsend, a few miles north-west of Whitby, with paths leading to the ruins of the old Mulgrave Castle. The woods are privately owned by the Mulgrave Estate and open to the public on set days only, usually Wednesdays, weekends and school holidays but closed in May, so always check before you go. Dogs are welcome on a lead.
