Dog-Friendly Parks & Off-Leash Areas in Uppsala

A 108-hectare municipal nature reserve immediately south-west of the city centre, mixing tall pine and spruce stands with old-growth oak and beech. A 6 km network of marked paths and electrically lit ski-and-jog tracks (elljusspår) crosses the reserve. Dogs must be on a leash year-round inside the reserve — this is the rule, not just the 1 March-20 August national period — but it is the favourite long-walk option for any Uppsala dog owner: quiet underfoot, mostly shaded, and accessible from four sides of the city.

One of the seven municipal hundrastgårdar maintained by Uppsala kommun, in the Stabby suburb west of the centre. The full perimeter is fenced (about 1.8 m), the surface is mowed grass and packed gravel, and there are benches plus a separate small-dog enclosure inside the main one. Locals come every evening between 17:00 and 20:00 — the social hour for dogs and owners both — and most weekends see a steady rotation throughout the day. Free, no booking, lit until 21:00 in winter.

A municipal fenced dog park in the Nåntuna suburb south-east of the centre, by the Sävjaån watercourse. The perimeter is a 1.6 m mesh fence with a double-gate airlock at the entrance. Mowed grass and a small wooded patch inside give dogs both open running room and a shaded corner for warm afternoons. Less crowded than Stabby and a favourite of owners who live south of the river or who arrive by car from Knivsta and the airport corridor.
