Dog-Friendly Beaches in The Hague

Kijkduin's southern stretch is the city's most reliable dog beach: from strandslag 2 southwards to Monster, dogs are allowed off-leash all year round, even in peak summer. The dunes behind the beach are part of Westduinpark, so a long loop combining beach and dunes is easy. The atmosphere is calmer and more local than Scheveningen, with fewer tourist crowds.

From pole 34 northwards toward Katwijk, dogs are welcome off-leash year-round. This stretch of coast is wilder and quieter than the Scheveningen boulevard, with the Meijendel and Wassenaarse Slag dunes inland. Strong tides and undertow make swimming risky — check the flag at the entrance before letting a dog in the water.

Scheveningen's main central beach allows dogs off-leash from 1 October to 14 May. From 15 May to 1 October, dogs are still permitted off-leash on the Zuiderstrand between 21:00 and 07:00 — a popular sunset and early-morning option in summer. Outside the season, the long, flat sands are one of the best winter walks in the Netherlands.
