Tenby is small, walled and very walkable, and the nicest way to arrive with a dog is by train on the West Wales Line, where dogs travel free. The old town inside the walls is largely pedestrian and steep in places, so leaving the car outside and walking or taking the dog-friendly train is the easy, stress-free choice, especially in a crowded summer.

| National Rail (West Wales Line) | Under the National Rail Conditions of Travel, up to two dogs travel free with each passenger, on a lead or in a carrier, and not on the seats. Tenby station is on the Pembroke Dock branch of the West Wales Line run by Transport for Wales, with trains roughly every two hours east to Whitland, Carmarthen and Swansea and west to Pembroke. | ๐ก |
| Caldey Island boat trips | The Caldey Island boats from Tenby harbour welcome dogs, and dogs travel and land free of charge, but must be kept on a lead at all times on the boat and on the island. Bring cash for the crossing, and note that boarding is from the harbour beach at high tide and from Castle Beach at low tide. | ๐ก |
| Local buses and taxis | The coastal bus services linking Tenby, Saundersfoot, Pembroke and the coast generally accept dogs at the driver's discretion; keep the dog on a lead and off the seats. Taxis are also at the driver's discretion, so mention the dog when you book. | ๐ก |
Tenby is on the south Pembrokeshire coast in west Wales. By rail you take the West Wales Line via Whitland or Carmarthen straight into Tenby station, which is dog-friendly and free for up to two dogs and only a short walk from the walled town and both beaches. The nearest airport is Cardiff (CWL), about two hours away by road; drivers should note the old town is largely pedestrian, so the edge-of-town car parks are the easiest option with a dog.
Once you are in, Tenby is best explored on foot: the harbour, the medieval walls, Tudor Square, Castle Hill and both beaches are all a short, if hilly, walk apart. The narrow old-town streets get very crowded in July and August, so early mornings and evenings are the calmest times to walk a dog, and they also line up neatly with the beach dog rules.
