Public Transport in Siena with a Dog

The Trenitalia regional rail terminus on the north edge of Siena, end of the Florence-Siena regional line (1h15-1h45, 30 trains a day via Empoli or Poggibonsi) and the Chiusi-Siena line (1h25, change at Chiusi-Chianciano for Rome-Florence high-speed corridor). 1.5 km from Piazza del Campo via the escalator/moving walkway through Galleria Antiporto and Via di Camollia. Small dogs in carriers travel free; medium-large dogs travel half-fare second-class with muzzle on hand and leash, or free in a carrier.

The Piazza Gramsci coach hub on the north-east edge of the walled centre is the main intercity bus station for Tiemme (regional Tuscan operator) and Sena (Autostradale group long-distance), with direct services to Florence (1h15 by Autostradale, every 30 min), Rome Tiburtina (3h by Sena, 8 daily), San Gimignano (1h15 by Tiemme), Volterra (1h45), Montepulciano (1h30), Montalcino (1h15), Florence FLR airport (90 min direct) and Pisa PSA airport (2h via Florence). Tiemme runs the urban and suburban bus network of Siena and the surrounding province, with all routes converging on Piazza Gramsci and the Stazione, including the airport shuttles and the lines down to the Ponte a Tressa industrial zone, the Università per Stranieri quarter and the Ravacciano hospital. The walled historic centre is entirely pedestrian/ZTL inside the walls, so buses drop at the gates (Porta Camollia, Porta Romana, Porta Ovile). Leashed muzzled dogs welcome free.
