Dog-Friendly Attractions in Saint-Jean-de-Luz

The working fishing harbour and the adjoining Place Louis XIV, fronted by the Maison Louis XIV where the Sun King stayed in 1660, are the lively open-air heart of town. You can stroll the quays and the square on a lead, watch the boats, and pause on a dog-friendly terrace.

The largest French Basque church, this is where Louis XIV married the Spanish Infanta Maria Theresa in 1660, after which the wedding door was sealed forever. The exterior and the surrounding old-town lanes are an easy on-leash visit; dogs are not taken inside the church itself.

The Sainte-Barbe headland gives the classic panoramic view back over the bay, the town and Fort de Socoa, and is the launch point for the cliff-top corniche basque coastal walk. It is one of the most rewarding open-air outings in the area for a leashed dog.
