Regensburg sits at the confluence of the Danube and the Regen, around 500 km from the nearest sea. The city has one officially marked dog swimming spot on the Donau west of the centre, plus easy day trips to Bavarian dog beaches such as the Guggenberger See and the Brombachsee Hundestrand.
Winzerer Höhen, 93049 Regensburg
The city's official Hundebadeplatz on the south bank of the Danube in the Winzer district. Gravel and grass entry, shallow water, signed perimeter. The most central dog swimming spot in Regensburg.
💡 Best in late morning. Beware the Danube's current after spring melt (April to May); shallow water area is safest for nervous swimmers.
Guggenberger See, 93128 Regenstauf
Former gravel pit turned into a clean swimming lake 15 minutes north of Regensburg by S-Bahn. A signed Hundestrand on the north shore offers around 200 m of grass and shallow water for dogs in summer.
💡 Take the S1 to Regenstauf then a 15-minute walk. The lake heats to 22 to 24 degrees in July and August.
Brombachsee, 91785 Pleinfeld
The largest lake in the Franconian Lakelands, about 1h15 by car west of Regensburg. Three signed Hundestrand zones on the south shore offer 200 to 400 m of sand for swimming and running, the gold standard summer dog beach in Bavaria.
💡 Worth a full day trip in July or August. The southern Hundestrand at Allmannsdorf is the easiest, free parking 200 m away.
