Best Parks & Dog Walks in Opatija

The green heart of Opatija, laid out in the 1880s around the neoclassical Villa Angiolina, with camellias, magnolias, a Japanese camellia collection and exotic plantings from across the old empire. Shaded gravel paths make it a cool, sociable morning walk. Leashed dogs are welcome throughout the park.

A terraced park above the sea beside the little church of St James, with a formal rose garden, fountains and open lawns looking out over the Kvarner Bay. It sits right next to the famous Maiden with the Seagull statue and the start of the Lungomare. Leashed dogs are welcome on the paths and terraces.

The forested Učka massif rises steeply behind Opatija and is protected as a nature park, laced with marked hiking trails through beech and chestnut woods up to the Vojak summit at 1,401 m and its panoramic stone tower. Dogs are welcome on the trails on a leash. It is cooler and shaded, a real escape from the summer heat down on the coast.
