Getting to & Around Norderney with a Dog

Norderney is a car-light island reached only by sea, which is part of its charm with a dog. You take a train to Norddeich Mole, then the Reederei Frisia ferry across to the island (about 55 minutes, timed to the tides), with dogs travelling on the lead for a small fee. Once there, most visitors leave the car behind at Norddeich, as the island restricts traffic: you get around on foot, by bike or on the small island bus, all easy with a leashed dog and the reason the place feels so relaxed.
