Dog-Friendly Parks & Walks on Norderney

Norderney's dedicated free-run area, the one place on the island where dogs can legally run off the lead all year. It is a welcome release valve on an island where leads are otherwise required from March to October, and a chance for your dog to burn off energy safely away from traffic and wildlife.

The green heart of the resort, a landscaped park with sheltered paths leading to the Napoleonschanze, a historic dune redoubt with a viewpoint over the island. It is an easy, pretty leashed loop, and a good option when the North Sea wind makes the open beach hard going.

The waymarked trails through Norderney's dunes and the eastern nature reserve give big-sky walks with constant sea air, linking the town, the lighthouse and the wild Weiße Düne. Long stretches feel gloriously empty, but they run through protected habitat, so dogs stay on the lead and off the fenced bird zones.
