Dog-Friendly Lakes & Swimming near Munich

The Flaucher is Munich's most popular urban swimming and sunbathing spot — a series of gravel banks at a wide bend in the Isar in the Sendling district. It's also one of the most dog-friendly spots in the city. Dogs can swim freely in the calmer shallows. The adjacent Flaucher Beer Garden (Isarauen) is one of Munich's best, with a large outdoor terrace where dogs are welcome. Perfect for combining a swim with a cold beer.

The nearest major Alpine lake to Munich, Starnberger See is stunning — clear water, mountain backdrop, and a string of historic villages along its shores. Dogs are permitted at several lake access points around the shoreline, particularly on the quieter northern and eastern banks. The main town beaches have restrictions on dogs in summer. The lakeside towns of Tutzing and Bernried tend to be more dog-permissive.

The Ammersee is the second of Munich's great day-trip lakes, with a more relaxed and less crowded atmosphere than the Starnberger See. Several access points around the lake allow dogs year-round, particularly on the northern bank near Herrsching. The lake is surrounded by beautiful rolling countryside and the area is excellent for combined cycling and swimming trips.
