Dog-Friendly Parks in Malaga

The Parque de Málaga is the city's most central and most-used dog-walking circuit. It runs parallel to the seafront between the port and the Malagueta beach, a long, shaded boulevard of tall trees, ornamental ponds, and tropical plants. Leashes are required throughout, but the wide, well-paved paths make navigation easy for any size of dog. Early mornings here are genuinely lovely — the sea light through the canopy, the sound of the port, and a steady procession of Malaga residents and their dogs.

La Concepción is one of the most beautiful botanical gardens in Spain, a 23-hectare estate of tropical and subtropical plants set on a hillside north of the city. Founded in the 19th century by a British consul and a Spanish aristocrat, it retains the romantic landscaping of its origins — grand waterfalls, Romantic-era follies, and paths that wind through enormous specimen trees. Dogs are welcome on a leash throughout. The contrast between the garden's lush greenness and the dry Andalusian hills outside is striking. Admission is charged; arrive early to avoid heat.

The forested hill above the Alcazaba and the Castillo de Gibralfaro is one of Malaga's most rewarding dog walks. The pine forest offers dense shade even in summer, the paths are well-maintained, and the views over the city, the port, and the sea from the ridge are among the best in Andalusia. Off-leash is possible on the forested trails away from the castle entrance areas. The combination of the castle exterior walk, the forest paths, and the panoramic viewpoints makes this a genuine half-day excursion with a dog.

Parque del Oeste is the main green lung of western Malaga, a large and well-maintained park with wide tree-lined paths, a dedicated dog area, and a relaxed neighbourhood atmosphere. It lacks the scenic drama of Monte de Gibralfaro or the botanical interest of La Concepción, but as a daily dog-walking park it's excellent — spacious, shaded, and genuinely local. The dedicated dog area allows off-leash play in a fenced zone. Popular with families in the afternoon and dog walkers in the early morning.
