Dog-Friendly Beaches near Malaga

Playa de los Álamos is the first of the eastern Malaga beaches with a formally designated dog-friendly zone. The eastern end of the beach has an area marked for dogs where access is permitted year-round. It's a wide sandy beach with calm waters, and being east of the city centre it's significantly less crowded than the Malagueta. Reach it by EMT bus or by car — parking is available nearby.

El Palo is Malaga's most characterful eastern beach — a working fishing village beach with wooden boats still pulled up on the sand and a seafront lined with the best chiringuitos in the city. Outside the peak summer months, dogs are generally tolerated on the beach, especially early morning and evening. The fishing village atmosphere and the proximity of the great El Tintero restaurant make El Palo one of the best overall areas in Malaga to spend a day with a dog.

Punta Palangre is the Costa del Sol's most reliable designated dog beach — an official, signposted area in Fuengirola where dogs can swim, run, and play off-leash in the water year-round. It's 30 minutes west of Malaga by car or by the Cercanías train (Fuengirola station, then 15 minutes on foot or by taxi). The beach has waste bins, dog water stations, and a relaxed atmosphere with dedicated dog owners. If you want your dog to properly swim in the Mediterranean, this is where you come.
