Dog Parks & Walks in Lisbon

Monsanto Forest Park spans nearly 1,000 hectares of pine and eucalyptus forest on Lisbon's western hills — the largest urban forest park in Portugal and one of the biggest in Europe. For dogs, it's exceptional: wide unpaved forest trails, fresh air, shade even in summer, and relatively few crowds away from the main picnic areas. Dogs must be on-leash in the designated picnic zones but can walk more freely on the forest trails. The park has multiple entry points and can be explored for hours. Several miradores (viewpoints) offer spectacular city views.

Lisbon's most central large park, Parque Eduardo VII slopes up from Praça do Marquês de Pombal to a miradouro at the top with panoramic views over the city to the Tejo. Dogs are welcome on-leash throughout the park's wide central promenade and the surrounding lawns. The shaded side paths are quieter and good for a leisurely walk. The park connects directly to Avenida da Liberdade for onward exploration. The hot greenhouses (Estufa Fria) do not allow dogs.

A beautiful 19th-century formal garden in the Estrela neighbourhood, one of Lisbon's most charming residential areas. Jardim da Estrela is a genuine local's park — families, dog walkers, and café-goers filling the benches and paths throughout the day. The central café terrace is dog-friendly and makes an excellent stop. Dogs must be on-leash. The park has large shaded areas and a small duck pond. The surrounding Estrela neighbourhood streets are among Lisbon's most pleasant for a post-park stroll.

The Lisbon waterfront stretching from Cais do Sodré to Belém is one of the most pleasant urban walks in southern Europe. The wide riverside promenade is flat, scenic, and dog-friendly throughout. Multiple café terraces along the route welcome dogs. The walk passes the Museu do Oriente, the Museu Nacional de Arte Antiga, and eventually reaches the Pastéis de Belém and the Torre de Belém. Total distance about 6km — plan 1.5–2 hours at a relaxed pace.
