Pet-Friendly Attractions in Lisbon

Lisbon's network of miradouros (hilltop viewpoints) are among the most spectacular in any European capital, and all are accessible with dogs on-leash. The Miradouro da Graça and Miradouro da Senhora do Monte offer the finest panoramic views. The walk through Alfama's narrow streets to reach them is memorable — note the cobblestones are challenging for older dogs. The miradouros themselves are open squares where dogs can relax while owners take in the view. Most have kiosks with outdoor seating where dogs are welcome.

The Belém waterfront is one of Lisbon's most magnificent outdoor areas and extremely dog-friendly for walking. The riverside gardens, the Monument to the Discoveries, the Torre de Belém exterior, and the Jardim do Ultramar are all accessible with dogs on-leash. The iconic Pastéis de Belém café has a terrace area that is dog-friendly. Note that the interiors of the Jerónimos Monastery and Torre de Belém itself do not permit dogs.

Príncipe Real is Lisbon's most sophisticated neighbourhood — a tree-lined hilltop district with antique shops, independent bookstores, design boutiques, and some of the city's best restaurants. The Saturday market in the Jardim do Príncipe Real is one of the most pleasant in Lisbon and very dog-friendly. The neighbourhood's wide shaded streets and café terraces make it an excellent base for a morning with your dog. Dogs are welcome on virtually all terraces in the area.

Built for Expo 98 and now a modern riverside district, Parque das Nações is one of Lisbon's most dog-friendly areas. The long flat riverside promenade, wide boulevards, and multiple outdoor café terraces make it extremely comfortable for dogs. The Jardins Garcia de Orta botanical garden allows dogs on-leash. The area is quieter than the historic centre and entirely flat — ideal for dogs that struggle with Lisbon's hills.
