Jurmala is built around its 33 km of beach, and the single biggest fact for a dog-owning visitor is that the beach is closed to dogs from April 1 to October 31. This makes Jurmala a counter-intuitive but excellent off-season destination, November to March is the only window when you can walk an empty Baltic sand beach with a leashed dog. In summer, plan around Dzintari Forest Park instead of the beach, and use the wooden Art Nouveau dacha streets (Z. Meierovica prospekts, Jomas iela) for slower architectural walks.
