Dog Beaches near Haarlem, Zandvoort Hondenstrand & Bloemendaal aan Zee

The year-round, off-leash dog beach at the southern end of Zandvoort, marked by signs from Boulevard Barnaart south to the boundary with Bloemendaal aan Zee. The sand is wide, the water gently sloping, and the section is far quieter than the central Boulevard, even in July. Two dog-friendly beach pavilions (Tien and Beachclub Tien) sit just behind the dune, both keep water bowls outside.

A 2 km section of dunes-backed sand north of Zandvoort with a year-round off-leash dog zone clearly signed at the Zeeweg entrance. Quieter than Zandvoort even in summer, with the iconic Bloemendaal beach clubs strip starting just north (most are dog-friendly off the dance-floor terrace). The Kennemer Dunes National Park sits directly behind, you can combine a beach swim with a 5 km dune loop.

The Spaarne flows right through the centre of Haarlem and at the De Adriaan windmill turn the banks fall gently to shallow gravel entries that work for confident swimming dogs. Dogs must be leashed on most of the city embankment, but the Scheepmakersdijk and Schoterbrug stretches see relaxed enforcement and locals routinely let dogs in. Avoid the rowing-club training stretch between Catharijnebrug and Buitenrustbrug (07:00–10:00).
