May to June and September are the best months: average highs of 16-18 C, Kelvingrove and Pollok parks are green and dry, and the city is far less congested than Edinburgh in summer. July and August bring higher tourist numbers but Glasgow remains less overwhelming than its eastern neighbour. Avoid Celtic Connections (January) and the Glasgow International Comedy Festival (March) if your dog dislikes dense crowds on narrow pavements.
From the EU you need: ISO microchip, valid rabies vaccination (at least 21 days old, not expired), and a GB Animal Health Certificate (AHC) issued by an EU official vet (OV) within 10 days of arrival. The AHC is valid 4 months for onward EU travel and 4 months for return. Tapeworm treatment is required only for return travel to Ireland, Finland, Malta or Norway.
The best dog-walking route in Glasgow links Kelvingrove Park (off-leash lawns and woodland walks) via the River Kelvin path north to the Botanic Gardens, then loops back through the West End. For a longer day, Pollok Country Park (5 km south, free parking) offers 146 hectares of woodland trails fully off-leash. Glasgow Green along the Clyde is the flat city-centre alternative, entirely dog-friendly.
