This is the thing to plan around: despite 150 kilometres of coast, Fuerteventura authorises only a handful of dog beaches, most of them near the capital Puerto del Rosario, and the famous resort beaches at Corralejo, Costa Calma and Sotavento are not dog zones. The good news is the authorised beaches operate essentially year-round with no seasonal ban, and there are wild options too. Most have no shade, showers or bins, so bring water, bags and sun cover, and always check current local signage.

An officially authorised dog beach at Punta de la Arena in the Puerto del Rosario municipality, north of the water treatment plant near the old Puerto Lajas road. Open to dogs year-round, it is one of the most reliable spots to let your dog enjoy the sea, though there are no services, so come prepared.

One of Europe's great wild beaches: a remote 12-kilometre sweep of sand on the Jandía peninsula, backed by mountains and reached by a long unpaved track.
