Beach · South of the medina ramparts, Essaouira
A 14 km Atlantic beach that is arguably the best dog beach in Morocco. No seasonal ban, no restricted zones for dogs, and the steady Atlantic trade wind (the Alizé) keeps temperatures comfortable year-round. The beach is wide and hard-packed close to the waterline, ideal for running. Dogs run off-leash freely south of the medina walls. The wind makes frisbee and ball-fetching spectacular; the waves are consistent (2-4m swells) but there is a calm zone close to shore.
💡 The Alizé wind is at its strongest midday (20-35 knots); mornings and evenings are calmer for dogs. The beach is at its best during the golden hour before sunset when the Atlantic light turns the sand amber and the Atlas mountains appear on the horizon on clear days
