Agadir

A 6 km seafront between the marina and the Founty district. Leashed dogs are tolerated, ideally early in the morning or at the end of the day when crowds and heat drop off.

Remains of the 16th-century kasbah on the hill overlooking the bay, with the motto God, Homeland, King lit up at night. The outdoor esplanade is accessible to leashed dogs, with a superb panorama over the port and the beach.

One of Morocco's largest covered markets, around 3,000 stalls behind ochre walls. Dogs are not admitted: leave your companion at the hotel and allow 2 to 3 hours for the visit.

A modern marina at the foot of the kasbah, with pedestrian quays lined with shops and cafes. Leashed dogs can walk the outdoor quays, which are pleasant at sunset.

The Tamraght river gorges an hour's drive inland, with palm groves, natural pools and rocky trails. Leashed dogs are accepted on the trails; set off early, as the heat rises fast away from the ocean.

A botanical and wildlife park dedicated to Nile crocodiles, on the eastern edge of the city. Dogs are not admitted, as in most wildlife parks; plan this visit without your companion.
