Dog Parks & Walks in Costa da Caparica

A protected coastal pine and juniper forest crowning the Arriba Fossil cliffs, with three easy, well-signposted circular trails and recently built boardwalks. Leashed dogs are welcome on the shaded paths, which offer panoramic views over the Atlantic toward Sintra and Arrabida. The cool pine canopy makes it the best summer walk in the area when the beaches are off-limits at midday.

The long, unconcessioned southern stretch of the Caparica coast toward Fonte da Telha is the area's great open dog walk, with kilometres of empty sand backed by dunes. Outside the June to September bathing season these beaches are effectively open to leashed dogs all day. In summer, use the very early morning or after sunset to avoid both the heat and the seasonal restrictions.

The paved promenade along the Caparica seafront and the old fishing-town streets behind it make for an easy, sociable leashed walk with cafe stops and constant sea views. It is the practical everyday walk when the beach itself is closed to dogs in summer. Flat, well lit and busy with locals and their own dogs in the evenings.
