Dog-Friendly Attractions in Costa da Caparica

A protected landscape of dramatic fossil-rich cliffs rising up to 70 metres above the southern beaches, topped by the Mata dos Medos pine reserve. Leashed dogs can walk the clifftop trails and boardwalks, taking in sweeping Atlantic views toward Sintra and Cabo Espichel. It is the area's signature natural sight and its coolest walk in summer.

The heart of Caparica is a low-key former fishing town whose harbour still launches traditional boats, with a lively seafront avenue of cafes, esplanades and a daily fish-market feel. Strolling the avenida and back streets with a leashed dog is one of the simplest pleasures here. It is busiest and coolest in the evening, when locals walk their own dogs along the front.

A relaxed beach village at the southern tip of the coast, below the Arriba Fossil and the Mata dos Medos, with a cluster of seasonal restaurants and a long, wild beach. Its unconcessioned sands make it one of the more dog-tolerant spots in summer, and the surrounding dunes and pine give it a remote, end-of-the-line feel. A natural reward at the end of a clifftop or beach walk.
