Costa da Caparica is one long Atlantic beach stretching roughly 26 numbered praias from Cova do Vapor and Sao Joao da Caparica in the north down to Fonte da Telha in the south, historically linked by the Transpraia mini-train. Portuguese law (Decree-Law 93/2009) bans dogs from supervised, concessioned beaches during the official bathing season, which here runs broadly from June to mid-September. The practical rule for dog owners is simple: in summer, use the unconcessioned, unsupervised ends of the coast (the wild northern tip around Cova do Vapor and the long southern sands toward Fonte da Telha), keep dogs leashed, clean up, and walk in the cool early morning or evening. Out of season, from October to May, dogs are tolerated along almost the entire coastline.
