Dog-Friendly Attractions in Chamonix

The little red cog train climbs from Chamonix to the Montenvers balcony at 1,913 m above the Mer de Glace glacier, and leashed dogs ride along and can visit the whole site. Skip the ice cave stairs if your dog is not used to see-through metal steps, the view from the terrace is the real show anyway.

The gondola from the town centre lifts you and your leashed dog to Planpraz at 2,000 m, the classic face-on balcony of the Mont Blanc massif; in summer dogs can continue on the Brévent cable car to 2,525 m. From Planpraz you can walk sections of the Grand Balcon Sud outside the reserve boundary.

The pedestrian heart of the world's mountaineering capital, from the Balmat statue to the Arve bridges, is a compact, dog-easy stroll past alpine facades, gear shops and terraces. Water bowls appear outside many boutiques in summer.
