Dog Walks & Nature Trails in Cap Ferret

A network of shaded pinewood cycle and walking paths runs the length of the peninsula, linking the oyster villages, the Bassin waterfront and the ocean side, with colour-coded routes (green for forest, yellow for beach access). Leashed dogs are welcome throughout, making this the everyday alternative to the dog-banned beaches.

An easy 11 km signposted loop (around 3 hours 15) starting from Avenue de la Pointe aux Chevaux, threading through pine forest, the ocean beach edge, the Piraillan nature reservoirs and the oyster port. Dogs are welcome along the route on a leash, which is mandatory through the protected Piraillan reservoir section where herons and cormorants nest.

A peaceful set of former salt reservoirs near Piraillan, now a small protected wetland reserve crossed by shaded footpaths popular for birdwatching. Leashed dogs may walk the paths, but the leash is strictly required here to protect nesting herons and cormorants, and you must stay on the marked trail.
