Pet-Friendly Attractions in Cap Ferret

The most picturesque oyster village on the peninsula, a car-free maze of sandy alleys and colourful cabanes ostréicoles right on the Bassin, with the unusual Moorish-style Chapelle Algérienne as its landmark. Leashed dogs are a common sight wandering the alleys and relaxing by the water, and there is no admission charge.

The 53-metre red-and-white lighthouse is the symbol of the peninsula, with 258 steps up to a panorama over the whole Bassin, the oyster beds, the Île aux Oiseaux and the Dune du Pilat. Dogs cannot climb the tower, but the surrounding grounds and pine paths are accessible with a leashed dog while one person climbs.

A smaller, quieter oyster village than L'Herbe, Le Canon has the same charm of wooden cabanes, working oyster huts and a sleepy waterfront looking across the Bassin. It is an easy, leash-friendly stroll, with cabane terraces where you can sit with your dog and a calm slipway perfect for a slow morning.
