Dog Rules on Cap Ferret Beaches

The sheltered, shallow Bassin beaches such as Le Mimbeau, L'Herbe and Le Canon are the calmest water on the peninsula, but dogs are formally banned on all of them year-round, leashed or not. You can still walk a leashed dog through the oyster villages and along the waterfront paths just behind these beaches.

The Atlantic beaches of Grand Crohot, Le Truc Vert and Plage de l'Horizon are the wild, big-surf side of Cap Ferret, backed by dunes and pine forest. Dogs are banned here too, all year, partly to protect dune-nesting birds, so plan ocean swims for your dog at a dog-friendly beach further along the coast.

Since the Cap Ferret beaches are closed to dogs, La Salie Sud is the nearest wild Atlantic beach where leashed dogs are welcome all year round. It is an undeveloped, uncrowded ocean beach south of the Dune du Pilat, ideal for a long off-day swim and run with your dog away from the peninsula's restrictions.
