Brighton & Hove operates a strict beach calendar: dogs are welcome on every beach from 1 October to 30 April, and on a list of designated beaches the rest of the year. Always carry bags and keep your dog under close control, there are no off-leash bans at any time, but enforcement officers patrol in summer. Dogs are required to be on a lead on the paved promenade itself.
The most reliable dog beach in the city, in front of and just east of the Hove Lawns Café. Dogs are permitted year-round, including throughout the summer ban that applies to most of the central seafront. Pebble underfoot rather than sand, with a gentle slope into the sea, water bowls available at the café outside.
💡 Walk west toward the lagoon, fewer people and the pebbles get smaller and easier on paws.
A wide pebble cove at the eastern edge of the Brighton & Hove boundary, framed by chalk cliffs. Dogs are welcome year-round, with off-leash access tolerated when the beach is quiet. Tidal: at low tide a long flat sand strip emerges. The Undercliff Walk leads back toward Brighton Marina, fully dog-friendly on leash.

From 1 October to 30 April, the entire central Brighton beach, pebbles, beach huts and arches, opens to dogs off-leash. From 1 May to 30 September, dogs are not permitted on this stretch at any time. The winter walk between the two piers is one of the great UK seaside experiences for dogs, with rolling waves and almost no crowd.
