Braga sits between the Cávado and Este rivers at the foot of the Serra do Carvalho, with green space woven through the urban fabric. The dominant local rule is straightforward: dogs must be on a lead in all public parks and gardens, off-leash zones are not yet formally designated within the city (residents typically drive 40 minutes east to Peneda-Gerês National Park for true off-leash hiking). Open daily from dawn to dusk, dogs welcome on leash on all paths and lawns. A popular early-morning and after-work walk for local owners, expect to meet other dogs.
A 15-hectare residential-area park east of the centre, the largest public green space in the municipality. Wide tarmac paths suit dogs of all sizes, mature oaks provide shade in summer, and a 1.5km perimeter circuit is popular with joggers and dog walkers. Dogs must be leashed; bag dispensers are installed at the two main entrances.
