Pet-Friendly Attractions in Braga

Braga's most famous monument and a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2019, an 18th-century baroque Sanctuary perched on a forested hillside. The 581-step zigzag staircase with chapels, fountains and statues is fully open to dogs on lead, and the surrounding 22-hectare wooded park has shaded paths for further walks. Inside the church itself dogs are not allowed. A funicular (the oldest water-counterbalance funicular in the world, dogs in carriers allowed) saves the climb.

A 16th-century Benedictine monastery 6 km west of the city, set in 40 hectares of terraced gardens, vineyards, fountains and forested hillside. The gardens and outdoor estate are fully dog-friendly on lead, the monastery interior (with its baroque church and cloisters) is not. Entry is by ticket to the museum-monastery, but the surrounding park can be walked separately.
