Dog-Friendly Lakes & Swimming near Berlin

The Wannsee is Berlin's most famous swimming lake, and it has a dedicated dog beach (Hundestrand) at the northern end of the main beach area. Dogs can swim freely in the designated zone year-round. The surrounding Grunewald forest provides a full day's outing: forest walk followed by lake swim. The dog beach has good shading and the lake is clean and monitored.

Berlin's largest lake, the Müggelsee, has several dog-accessible shores, particularly on the quieter southern and eastern banks around Rahnsdorf. Dogs can swim freely in most areas outside the main public beach zone. The surrounding Müggelberge forest hills make this the best combination of woodland walking and lake swimming near Berlin.

A smaller, quieter alternative to the Wannsee, Schlachtensee is a beloved local lake in the Zehlendorf district. Dogs are permitted at several points along the 4 km walking path around the lake, with designated swimming access areas. It's calmer and less crowded than Wannsee, making it better for dogs that find busy beaches stressful.
