Dog-Friendly Parks & Green Spaces in Bergamo

A 4,700-hectare regional protected park covering the wooded hills immediately north of Città Alta, with dozens of marked trails from gentle hour-long walks to full-day ridge hikes. Dogs are welcome throughout, on leash on the marked paths and free in the unfenced wood sections away from livestock. The visitor centre at Valmarina has trail maps and water points.

The 16th-century Venetian walls encircling Città Alta were inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage list in 2017 and form one of the best urban walking circuits in northern Italy. The full panoramic loop is about 6 km on grass, gravel and quiet roads, with continuous views over the Po Valley and the foothills of the Alps. Leashed dogs are welcome along the whole length, and water fountains punctuate the route.

The main urban park in Città Bassa, a 4-hectare green square between Via Camozzi and Via Verdi with mature trees, a small lake, and a dedicated fenced area cani at the south-east corner. The off-leash enclosure is double-gated and equipped with water and benches. The wider park welcomes leashed dogs and is the city's main morning dog-walking meeting point.
