Dog-Friendly Parks in Barcelona

Barcelona's most beloved urban park, occupying 17 hectares in the heart of the city between El Born and the Zoo. The park is vast enough to feel genuinely spacious even on busy weekend mornings. Dogs must be kept on a leash throughout, but the wide gravel paths, the lawns around the monumental cascade fountain, and the shaded pathways under the plane trees make it an excellent walking circuit. The boating lake area is particularly calm in the early morning. Dogs cannot enter the Zoo grounds.

The great escape from the city: a 8,000-hectare natural park of pine and oak forest that wraps around the northern and western sides of Barcelona. Dogs are permitted off-leash in most areas of the park, making it the best option in the greater Barcelona area for dogs who need to run. The trails range from easy paved paths to rocky mountain routes. Access is easy by FGC train (Baixador de Vallvidrera or Les Planes stations). Carry water for your dog in summer — the forest streams are seasonal.

A local neighbourhood park in Nou Barris with a designated off-leash dog zone that is one of the best-maintained in the city. The park has a genuine community feel — this is where the neighbourhood walks its dogs every morning, not a tourist destination. The off-leash area has separate sections for large and small dogs, water fountains for dogs, and seating for owners. A refreshingly ordinary Barcelona experience away from the tourist circuit.

A terraced garden on the slopes of Montjuïc combining formal Mediterranean design with natural woodland. The jardins follow a series of terraces connected by stone staircases, with pergolas of wisteria, fountains, and views over the city. Dogs must be kept on a leash throughout, but the gardens are calm, beautifully shaded, and rarely crowded — a very different atmosphere from the busy parks below. The walk up from the Fundació Joan Miró through the gardens and onto the Castell is a classic dog-walking route.
