Dog-Friendly Beaches in Barcelona

Barcelona's primary official dog beach, located at the northeastern end of the city's coastline near the Fòrum area. The dog-designated section is clearly marked and open year-round. The beach is wide, sandy, and cleaned daily. Dogs can run off-leash in the designated area and swim freely. This is the best option for dogs who love water — the Mediterranean is calm here and the approach to the sea is gradual. The beach is also used by locals from Poblenou and the 22@ district, giving it a neighbourhood feel even in summer.

Immediately adjacent to Platja de Llevant, Mar Bella has a dog-friendly section at its northeastern end that blends naturally into the Llevant dog beach. The beach has a more alternative, local vibe — less manicured, more relaxed. It is popular with Poblenou locals and the creative community of the 22@ district. The beach bar (chiringuito) area is tolerant of dogs on the terrace outside peak hours. Combined with a walk through Poblenou's converted industrial streets, this makes for an excellent half-day outing.

Not a beach, but the 1.5km seafront promenade that runs along Barceloneta is one of Barcelona's great dog walks. Dogs on leash are welcome on the promenade at all times. The walk from Port Olímpic to the end of Barceloneta beach — with the sea on one side and the bars and restaurants of the Barceloneta neighbourhood on the other — is a classic Barcelona experience. Early mornings before 08:00 and winter weekdays the promenade is particularly calm and beautiful. Note: dogs are NOT allowed on the Barceloneta beach itself from June to September.
