Dog-Friendly Attractions in Barcelona

Gaudí's extraordinary park on the slopes above Gràcia is one of Barcelona's great dog walks — in the exterior, free-access areas. Dogs on leash are permitted in all the green zones of the park outside the ticketed Monumental Zone. The network of paths through the Mediterranean woodland above the main terrace offers genuine seclusion and city views. The stone viaducts and the forested slopes above the main entrance are beautiful and largely tourist-free. Note: dogs are NOT allowed inside the ticketed Monumental Zone (the famous mosaic terrace and Hypostyle Room).

The walk from the old harbour (Port Vell) through the Barceloneta neighbourhood to the Port Olímpic is one of Barcelona's great urban dog walks. The route combines the narrow streets of the 18th-century fishermen's quarter, the seafront promenade, and the beach bars (closed to dogs on the sand in summer, but terrace access is fine). The Frank Gehry fish sculpture at the Port Olímpic end makes a satisfying destination. The whole route is about 2km each way and flat throughout.

Montjuïc — the hill that rises above the port on the southwestern edge of Barcelona — has some of the city's best dog-friendly walking. The network of gardens (Jardins de Laribal, Jardins Joan Brossa, Jardí Botànic) and the roads and paths linking the Castell de Montjuïc to the Fundació Joan Miró make for a half-day circuit. Dogs on leash are permitted throughout. The viewpoints over the port and the city are exceptional. The Funicular takes you up (dogs in arms or carrier required) and you can walk down through the gardens.
